Connect to Slack

This guide walks through how to set up Workleap AI to use knowledge from your Slack workspace.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Workleap AI captures messages and threads from:

  • Public channels: Admins can select specific channels to sync messages from.

  • Private channels: Individual users can choose to authorize Workleap AI to index the content of private channels they are part of. This feature is enabled on a per-channel basis and can be disabled by an admin if needed. Workleap AI ensures that only users with Slack permissions to access specific messages will see them in their search results.

  • Direct messages (DMs): Not supported.

  • Shared files are not supported yet.

Prerequisites

  1. You must be a Slack Workspace Owner or Workspace Admin. Verify your permissions here.

  2. We recommend using a service account for your Slack integration to ensure admin-level access does not interfere with personal Slack results.

Connect to Slack

  1. In Workleap AI Settings, in the Connected Apps section, click the Connect to app dropdown and select Slack.

  2. Click the Connect to your Slack workspace button and click Allow when asked to grant Workleap AI Permissions to Slack.
NOTE: During Early Access, Slack will temporarily display a red banner that says This app is not approved by Slack. This won't prevent you from clicking Allow.

  3. Select which Slack channels you’d like to sync and then click Begin initial sync.

Post-Setup

Once installed, Workleap AI will index your Slack workspace data. It may take several minutes to hours to process all your Slack workspace data, depending on the amount of content.
