Use this article to update the progress of a goal you own or contribute to in Workleap. Only a published goal accepts progress updates; each update records a percentage or the current value of each measurement, an optional status, and a comment, and shows up in the goal's activity.
Who can use it: the goal's creator, its owner, and its contributors (for a team goal, every member of the contributing teams; for an organization goal, everyone). Executives and Collaborators can update any goal.
Before you start
You are logged in to the new Workleap experience.
The goal is published. A draft or archived goal takes no progress update.
Find your goals
Your goals live on your own profile.
Log in to Workleap and go to Me, then open the Progression tab. The Goals section shows the goals you own with their status and progress.
Select View all my goals to open Your goals. Filter by Owner, status, state (Active, Draft), start or end date, or type, or search by name.
Select a goal to open its page.
Goals you contribute to without owning them appear under Team > Goals or Org > Goals, depending on their type.
Post a progress update
A progress update sets the goal's current progress and leaves a trace in its activity.
Open the goal and select Update progress, next to Progress.
In Status, pick On track, At risk, or Off track, or leave No status.
Enter the progress:
With Simple progress, type the new percentage in Goal progress.
With Metrics, type the current value of each measurement under Measurements. Goal progress is calculated from them; type over it to set it yourself.
With Sub-goals and no automatic roll-up, type the percentage you judge from the sub-goals.
In Comment, say what changed (up to 2,000 characters).
Select Save progress. The Progress bar and status update, and the update appears at the top of Activity with your name and the date.
A goal that rolls up automatically from its sub-goals has no Update progress: its progress changes when a sub-goal's does. See How is a goal’s progress calculated (simple, metrics, or sub-goals)?
Edit or delete a progress update
You can correct a progress update you posted yourself.
Only the author of an update can edit or delete it. Executives and Collaborators can edit or delete anyone's manual update.
Automatic updates, created by a sub-goal roll-up, can't be edited or deleted by anyone.
The goal's progress always reflects the latest update that remains.
When a goal goes quiet
A published goal with an owner, a start date, and an end date is considered stale when it hasn't had a progress update for a while. Workleap raises an action item and sends reminders before it gets there.
A goal is fresh for the first third of its lifespan after its last update (or after its start date if it has none), then aging up to half that time again, then stale. On a 90-day goal: fresh for 30 days without an update, aging until day 45, stale after that. Your organization can set a fixed number of days instead, 30 by default.
The day the goal stops being fresh, the owner gets the action item Update your goal progress for [goal], due on the last aging day. Posting any progress update completes it.
Every Friday, owners of goals flagged as needing an update receive a reminder email, if their notification preferences allow it.
For the action item itself, see What are the action items Workleap creates for me automatically?
Read the goal's activity
The Activity section at the bottom of the goal page lists every progress update and every change to the goal: who did it, when, and what it was before. Anyone who can read the goal can read its activity. Entries are kept even after the goal is deleted.
Limitations and workarounds
No update on a draft or archived goal. Publish the goal, or unarchive it, first.
No manual update with automatic roll-up. Update the sub-goals instead, or turn Auto-update from sub-goals off on the goal.
Contributors can update progress but not edit the goal. To change its name, dates, or measurements, ask the owner.
