How do I follow my team's goals as a manager?

See the goals of everyone in your reporting line, filter them, and spot stale or off-track goals. For Direct Managers.

Use this article to follow the goals of the people who report to you in Workleap, directly or indirectly. As a Direct Manager, you see every goal owned or contributed to by someone in your reporting line, plus every goal shared with the entire organization, and you can spot the ones that have gone quiet.

Who can use it: Direct Managers, for their reporting line. Executives and Collaborators see every goal in the organization. A manager of a team without direct reports (a Team Manager) sees goals as an Employee does.

Before you start

  • You are logged in to the new Workleap experience.

  • Your direct reports are assigned to you, through your HRIS sync or manually.

Open your team's goals

Your team's goals are listed on the Team page.

  1. Log in to Workleap and go to Team, then open the Goals tab. The list shows each goal with its owner, type (Individual, Team, or Organization), due date, status, progress, and when it was last updated.

  2. At the top, switch between Direct reports and All reports. All reports covers your whole reporting line, so if you manage managers, you see their teams' goals too.

  3. Narrow the list with the status, State, and type filters, Add filter, or search by name. Sort by any column.

  4. Select a goal to open its page: owner, contributors, parent goal, dates, progress, and Activity.

You can also open a person's profile and go to their Progression tab to see the goals they own.

What you can see

As a Direct Manager, you can read a goal when any of these is true: you created it, own it, or contribute to it; it is shared with the entire organization; its owner is in your reporting line; one of its contributors is in your reporting line; or a team it names as contributor includes one of your reports. Your reporting line means everyone below you, not only your direct reports.

Reading a goal doesn't let you change it. You can edit a report's goal only if you are its owner or creator, or an Executive or Collaborator. For the full rules, see Who can see and edit a goal?

Spot goals that have gone quiet

A goal that hasn't had a progress update for a while is flagged, and its owner is reminded.

  • In the Team > Goals list, the Updated column shows when each goal last changed; sort by it to find the oldest.

  • When a goal stops being fresh (after a third of its lifespan without an update, or the fixed number of days your organization set), its owner gets the action item Update your goal progress for [goal]. You see your reports' action items on their profile, under Action items.

  • Owners of flagged goals also receive a reminder email every Friday.

To raise it in your next 1:1, ask the Workleap agent to add the goal to your talking points, or open the goal and post a progress update yourself if you contribute to it.

Limitations and workarounds

  • You read, you don't edit. To change a report's goal, ask them, or become its owner. To post progress, you must be a contributor.

  • Team Managers see nothing extra. Managing a team in Workleap without being the Direct Manager of its members gives no access to their goals.

  • Goals set to Owner and contributors only outside your reporting line stay hidden. Ask the owner to add you as a contributor, or to share it with the entire organization.
