In Workleap Performance, review cycles are the basis of your performance strategy. All self, peer, and manager reviews are part of a larger review cycle. Each cycle fuels deeper insights, drives development, and keeps your teams aligned. Once wrapped, you can lock the cycle and dive into rich analytics to uncover trends, celebrate wins, and spotlight growth opportunities.
Note: Only Executives and Collaborators can create, edit, delete, or duplicate a review cycle.
Review types
The 3 performance review types are:
Self‑reviews
Peer reviews
Manager reviews
You can change the review types included in a review cycle until it is launched. If you need to update review types post-launch, you can duplicate the review cycle, adjust the review types, and relaunch it.
Sections and questions
All reviews are broken up into multiple sections and questions. Each section can include a description of the evaluation criteria.
Sections and questions can be duplicated to speed up review cycle creation.
Question types include rating scale, text, and multiple choice.
Questions are mandatory by default, but you can make them optional.
You can rephrase questions for specific review types (i.e., manager, peer, or self-reviews).
Lock a review cycle
Locking complete review cycles protects the cycle's data validity for reporting and analysis. We always recommend locking a review cycle when your review cycle is complete and you want to freeze changes and submissions.
Note: Only Executives and Collaborators can lock or unlock review cycles.
Once locked, reviews and edits can no longer be submitted for the review cycle.
This applies to all review types.
Cycles can be unlocked if needed.
This can impact the validity of your cycle data.
Peer reviews
Who can assign peer reviewers?
An Employee's Direct Manager as well as Performance Executives and Collaborators, can assign and update peer reviewers.
Note: If an Executive or Collaborator assigns an employee's peer reviewers, their Direct Manager can still see their employee's peer reviews.
Peer review visibility
Executives and Collaborators can control whether peer feedback is:
Not shared with participants (selected by default).
Shared anonymously.
Shared with reviewer names visible.
If peer review sharing is active, participants can only view the review once their Direct Manager has shared the review with them.
Other key details:
Settings can be changed until the cycle is locked.
Changes apply immediately—even after feedback is shared.
Managers can’t override your account's visibility settings.
They will see the visibility settings before sharing.
Peer reviewers are informed whether their review is anonymous or not.
If visibility is disabled, participants see a message that peer review data was collected but not shared.
Important: Executives and Performance Collaborators cannot view peer reviews that are written about them. This is to preserve anonymity and encourage honest reviews.
Mid-cycle updates
Updating a launched cycle
You can edit a review cycle any time before it is locked:
Extend deadlines if additional time is needed.
Add or remove participants.
Removed users' submissions are hidden but stored.
Edit review questions and sections.
Caution:
Deleting a question permanently removes any related responses.
We recommend only deleting questions before submissions begin.
No system notification is sent.
Communicate updates internally.
Mid-cycle question changes can impact the validity of your review cycle data.
Organizational changes
Workleap Performance automatically reflects structural changes in your organization:
If a Direct Manager changes, the new manager gains access to previously submitted review data.
If an employee is added to a team that's part of a review cycle, they are automatically added to the cycle.
If an employee is removed, their reviews are hidden but preserved in the system.
Deleting a review cycle
Deleting a cycle removes it from all participant dashboards.
No notification is sent.
All cycle data is permanently deleted.
Delete a review cycle
To delete a review cycle:
Log in to Workleap and open Performance.
Select Review cycles from the side menu.
Find the review cycle you want to delete.
Select the three-dots button next to the cycle, then click Delete and confirm.
You can also delete a review cycle from its cycle details page.
Translations
You can build bilingual review forms directly in the platform.
Workleap Performance supports English and French.
Enable additional languages in the cycle.
Once activated, you must manually add translations for each localization of the review cycle.
The form-builder appears in your organization's default language.
Participants see the form in their preferred language.
