Use this article to choose who reviews your team members in a review cycle in Workleap: peer reviewers for anyone, and upward reviewers for the managers in your reporting line. Each nomination creates a review and emails the reviewer right away.
Who can use it: Direct Managers for their reporting line, Temporary Direct Managers for their assigned reviewees, and Executives and Collaborators for anyone.
Before you start
The review cycle is launched, unlocked, and includes a peer or upward review. When it launches, your daily digest tells you which of your reports still need reviewers, and you get an action item Assign peers to review [name] or Assign upward reviewers for [name].
Open the cycle and find your team member
Nominations are made from the review cycle's reviewee list.
Log in to Workleap and go to Home. The card for the active review cycle shows your team's progress; select its name. You can also go to Org > Review cycles and select the cycle.
On the Progression tab, find the person with Search reviewees. Their row shows a PEER and an UPWARD column; a dash means nobody is assigned yet.
Select the … menu at the end of their row.
Assign peer reviewers
Peer reviewers are colleagues the person works with, chosen by their manager.
In the row's … menu, select Assign peer reviewers.
In Ask N peers to complete a review (N is the number suggested by the cycle), search people and select them. Next to each name, the number of reviews they already carry helps you avoid overloading the same people. The counter shows N total peers selected.
Select Update. A toast confirms N peer reviewers saved for [name], the row's PEER cell shows 0 / N, and each new reviewer receives a Peer Review Request email.
Confirm with the person who they regularly collaborate with before you pick. The suggested number is a guide, not a cap: a cycle allows up to 200 peer reviewers per person. To change the list later, select Update peer reviewers in the same menu; a removed peer's review is deleted and they are told their assignment is canceled.
Assign upward reviewers
Upward reviewers give feedback about a manager. Only a reviewee who manages people can have them.
In the row's … menu, select Assign upward reviewers.
In Assign upward reviewers, search people and select them. You can pick anyone in the organization, not only their reports. The button counts your selection: Assign N reviewers.
Select it. A toast confirms N upward reviewer saved for [name], the UPWARD cell shows Not started, and each reviewer receives an Upward Review Request email.
When the cycle was set to All direct reports or Entire reporting line, Workleap nominated the upward reviewers automatically when the person entered the cycle; you only add or remove from that list. With Manual, nobody is assigned until you do it. A reviewee can have up to 200 upward reviewers.
What reviewers and the reviewee see
Nominations in a review cycle are visible to different people in different ways.
A peer or upward reviewer sees only their own questions, not the reviewee's or the manager's answers.
You, the managers above you, Executives, and Collaborators always see who wrote each review.
The reviewee sees the names of their peer and upward reviewers only if the cycle's Author names setting is Shown to the reviewee, and only once you share their results. With Hidden from the reviewee, they never see the list.
Note: Even when names are hidden from the reviewee, what a reviewer writes is shown to the reviewee if the question is set to be shared. Tell your reviewers what will and won't be shared before they write.
Limitations and workarounds
Locked cycle. No nomination can be added or removed. Ask an Executive to unlock it.
Acknowledged results. In a cycle that requires acknowledgment, you can't add a reviewer for someone who already acknowledged, nor remove one if it would change what they confirmed.
Upward reviewers for a non-manager. The option only applies to reviewees who manage people.
Outside your reporting line. You can only nominate for your own reports. Ask an Executive or Collaborator for anyone else.
