Use this article to complete a review you were nominated for in Workleap, about a colleague (peer review) or about your manager (upward review). Both work like a self-review: the same editor, the same Workleap agent help, the same submit. The difference is what you see and who sees your name.
Who can use it: any Employee nominated as a peer or upward reviewer in a review cycle.
Before you start
You received a Peer Review Request or Upward Review Request email, and an action item Write your peer review for [name] or Write your upward review for [name] is on your list.
Find the review you were asked for
A peer or upward review is listed with your other review tasks.
Open the review from the email or from the action item, or log in to Workleap, go to Me, and open the Progression tab.
Select the review, then Edit review.
Write and submit
The peer or upward review form shows only your questions, in the wording written for peers or for reports.
Answer the questions. You see your own questions only, never the reviewee's self-review or the manager's answers.
Ask the Workleap agent for help in the panel on the left (Help me prepare the review), with the Context panel on the right showing what you are allowed to see about the person.
Select Update review to save for later, or submit when every required question is answered. You receive a confirmation email, and your action item closes.
You can edit a submitted review until it locks, the cycle locks, or the reviewee acknowledges their results.
Who sees your answers and your name
A peer or upward review in a review cycle is read by more people than the reviewee.
The reviewee's manager, the managers above them, Executives, and Collaborators read your answers once submitted, and always see that you wrote them.
The reviewee sees your answers only after their manager shares their results, and only for the questions the cycle set to be shared. Some of your questions may never be shown to them.
Whether the reviewee sees your name depends on the cycle's Author names setting: Hidden from the reviewee or Shown to the reviewee. Ask the manager who nominated you if you're unsure.
Note: Anonymity only applies to the reviewee. Managers and Executives always see who wrote a peer or upward review.
If the request is canceled
When a manager removes you as a reviewer, or the reviewee leaves the cycle, you receive a Peer Reviews Canceled or Upward Reviews Canceled email, your review is deleted, and the action item is canceled. Several cancellations arrive as one email.
Limitations and workarounds
Locked review. After the deadline and any delay the cycle allows, your review locks and shows Ended. Ask the reviewee's manager or an Executive for more time.
You can't decline from the form. Ask the manager who nominated you to remove you.
Upward reviews concern managers only. You are asked for one because the reviewee manages people, usually you.
