You’ve been assigned as a temporary Direct Manager—what now?

Performance

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If you've received a notification that you've been assigned as a temporary Direct Manager, it means you've been asked to support an Employee during a performance review cycle. Depending on their availability, you may collaborate with the Employee’s official Direct Manager on the review.

Being a temporary Direct Manager does not change the Employee’s official reporting line. Your access ends when the review cycle is locked.

What can you do as a temporary Direct Manager?

As a temporary Direct Manager, you can:

  • Access the Employee’s review tasks for this specific cycle.

  • Assign peers to give feedback for peer reviews.

  • Collaborate with the official Direct Manager to fill out and submit the manager review.

  • Share the review with the Employee.

Where to find your tasks

In Workleap Performance:

  • Find all your pending to-dos and active review cycles on the Home page.

  • You can also open the manager review and assign peers from the Review cycles page.

Note: You will also receive daily digests that list any outstanding review items. These digests and your assignment email also have a link to Workleap Performance.

Complete a manager review

  1. Open Workleap Performance.

  2. From the Home or Review cycles page, find the current review cycle.

    1. Find all your pending to-dos on the Home page.

  3. Select Start next to your assigned Employee to open their manager review.

  4. Answer the review questions and select Submit when complete.

    1. The form saves automatically, so you can safely close the page and return to it when you like.

Assign peers

If the review cycle has peer reviews, you must also assign peers to review your Employee. To do so:

  1. Open Workleap Performance.

  2. Find the peer assignment task on the Home page or select Assign peers on the active review cycle on the Review cycles page.

  3. Start typing the name of an Employee you want to assign as a peer reviewer, then select them from the list that appears.

  4. Repeat Step 3 until the recommended number of peer reviewers is assigned.

Tip: Try talking with your temporary Employee about who to assign as their peers.

Collaborating with the official Direct Manager

  • You both have access to the same manager review.

  • Either of you can edit, but only the most recent edit will be saved.

  • You can see who last modified the review.

  • The Employee will see both your names in the review header.

When your access ends

  • Your temporary role is limited to one review cycle.

  • Once the cycle is locked, you will lose access to the Employee’s review.

  • You will no longer appear as their temporary Direct Manager.

Tip: If you have questions about your responsibilities or the review timeline, contact your HR team.
